Then her ownership is won by a barbarian from another country. With the uncertainty that comes from belonging to a new warlock, Serena questions if being tarnished is really worse than being owned by a barbarian, and tempts fate by breaking the rules. When he looks the other way instead of punishing her, she discovers a new world. The more she ventures into the forbidden, the more she learns of love and a freedom just out of reach. Serena longs for both. But in a society where women are only ever property, hoping for more could be deadly.

Advanced Praise for You Are Mine:

“I was blown away by the beautiful writing, haunting themes, and chilling visuals.” ~Becca at Nawanda Files

“There were times when I had to fight back my tears and the emotion that this book drew from me made me feel so connected to what was going on as if I was actually there. You Are Mine should be on everyones to-read list and I cannot wait to see what Janeal Falor comes up with next.” ~Danielle at Coffee and Characters

“May I kiss you now?”

No. Kisses leave me feeling sick. “I suppose it would be for the best.”

He leans closer. I want to pull away. Thomas's kisses were callous. Painful even. The thought of more of that makes me feel queasy. But giving my permission somehow makes it harder to pull away.

His hand reaches up and brushes my face. Flecks of gold are mixed with the green of his eyes. Suddenly, he scoops me into his arms and plops me on his lap. I yelp. “Sorry, I guess I should have warned you first.”

After straightening my skirt with quivering fingers, I hold myself stiff. His nose nuzzles against the side of my neck. Warm lips brush my jaw and sweep along my cheek until they reach the corner of my mouth. My breath comes in shallow gasps. He smells lightly of citrus.

I don't move. His fingers tangle in my hair. His lips hover over mine. A nervous flutter grows in my chest. The creak of the door opening spurs him into action.

His lips touch mine. Flowing and sunny. They grow firmer. It feels so much better than I thought it could. His fingers run through my hair, the tendrils falling out of their confinement. Heat grows between us. He pulls me closer to him. Not only do I manage to refrain from fighting him, but I want to draw even closer.

Janeal Falor lives in Utah where she’s finally managed to live in the same house for more than five years without moving. In her spare time she reads books like they’re nuts covered in caramel and chocolate, cooks whatever strikes her fancy, and enjoys the outdoors. Her husband and three children try to keep up with her overactive imagination. Usually they settle for having dinner on the table, even if she’s still going on about the voices in her head.

Goodreads Summary

From the bestselling author of the Blood Ties series comes a stand-alone vampire romance. Buried in the Heartland is a town no one enters or leaves--until Graf McDonald somehow becomes its first visitor in more than five years. Original.

My Thoughts

Just finished this! I thought it flowed well and I adored Graf, although the chemistry between him and Jessa was mostly based on sexual attraction. Like holy-moly you're foxy and I'm into hick/sexy farm chicks. I think I love you?

Just saying. I would have liked this novel 10 times more if there was something deeper to their connection, not just that they were stuck together, needed each other for protection, oh and they were both REALLY hot so they got together. It kind of made it look like sex was casual and to me it's something very special.

But other than that I liked Jessa too, if I was stranded in her situation I'd probably go crazy! Derek got what was coming to him, he was a jerk and not worth anyone's timenot to mention an all time loserso enough said. Other than that, fabulous cover and interesting read. Was it the best ever? By far, no. But it was interesting.

My younger readers, be warned and watch out for the sex!

This novel had its perks, I wouldn't read it again, but it was an okay read.

Goodreads Summary

Claire Danvers has her share of challenges--like being a genius in a school that favors beauty over brains, homicidal girls in her dorm, and finding out that her college town is overrun with the living dead. When a local fraternity throws the Dead Girls' Dance, hell really breaks loose. Original.

My Thoughts

Not that The Dead Girl's Dance was a bad book or anything, but it definitely could have been better. I couldn't wait for this to finish. I think one of the biggest problems was character inconsistencies; many characters did many things far from habit and I'm not certain that they were all for the good of things.

For Example:

- Monica is crazy, but she definitely wasn't as threatening and the way she was kind of inserted near the end bothered me. Crazy Gina ended up bagging the psychopath award in this installment.

- I couldn't connect with Shane and Claire's relationship. Before they were this cute couple, I was convinced had genuine emotions and deep feelings for each other, but they just seemed lusty in The Dead Girl's Dance.

- Claire's thing for Michael seems a whole of a lot stronger than her relationship with Shane. When you date a guy, you should not be checking out his best friend I do not care remotely how hot/gorgeous he is. And then she proceeds to risk her life in trying to save him. W.T.F.???! One Stud at a time Claire, do not be selfish!

- Also, Claire's near-deal with Oliver was the biggest character regression and slap in the face. Remind me again how she is indeed supposed to be the smart one?

-Aw, shoot! I'm all sorts of disappointed. I geared myself up for some old-fashioned Monica Morell batty craziness and got zilch. WHY?? Bring the bitch back!

- Eve was so mean, I mean really, things for her were as cruddy as they could possibly be, but what happened to the sweet goth? She was snappy, cruel (at times), hard and suicidal. I wanted not once or twice, but on five+ occasions for the old Eve to come back.

I don't know why but I was expecting this to be as good as the first, the possibility of The Curse of the Second coming into play never really hit me until I was half-way into this book. The curse strikes again! BTW, whoever conjured up that little vat of voodoo suckiness is no small amount of twisted. Why can't every book after be as good as the first? Oh right, because I live in a world where fictional men aren't real.

What I liked:

- The writing was as good as ever, a little slow in some instances but still enough to keep me mildly interested.

- I wholly enjoyed Richard and he is by far the H.M. (honourable mention) character. Maybe because in this whole scope of inconsistencies he remained...well, consistent. My secret fantasy is for him and Claire to get together. Hey, a girl can dream.

- Sam is also an instant fave, he was so gentlemanly and awesome. *Sigh* I WANT TO STEAL SAM.

In Closing

Overall, I do believe that is it. The plot could have been more engaging, that's for sure, and I kind of detested the addition of Eve's diary at the end. Why weren't things with her brother/every other loose end tied up with the other part of the story? It wasn't a good way to go out.

But I think I will read the next a little after a break. Partly because I need the time away from Morganville and also, the person who has it requested before me is a little Quadruple Dipper. Yeah, I said it!

3.5 genies:

I couldn't make my mind up about you, you were almost there, almost perfect, but overall something was missing. Still a special piece of literature, though, 3 and a half genies.

Goodreads Summary

Once a century, one person is chosen for greatness.

Elisa is the chosen one.

But she is also the younger of two princesses, the one who has never done anything remarkable. She can't see how she ever will.

Now, on her sixteenth birthday, she has become the secret wife of a handsome and worldly king—a king whose country is in turmoil. A king who needs the chosen one, not a failure of a princess.

And he's not the only one who seeks her. Savage enemies seething with dark magic are hunting her. A daring, determined revolutionary thinks she could be his people's savior. And he looks at her in a way that no man has ever looked at her before. Soon it is not just her life, but her very heart that is at stake.

Elisa could be everything to those who need her most. If the prophecy is fulfilled. If she finds the power deep within herself. If she doesn’t die young.

Most of the chosen do.
My Thoughts

I actually enjoyed that. Like really, this book is the schiz official and a more detailed review will come in a few days. 4.5 genies and a total fave. OOOH, I LOVE THIS BOOK!

Update: Bear with me, I have the worst headache ever, the weather is absolutely the PITS and I just realized that I can't go see Hunger Games come out. In case you were wondering, yes, this does happen to amount to the worst possible scenario ever; my life sucks extremely. BUT I noticed that I'm a bit behind on reviews, as in it's been a while since I typed one out in sufficient detail. Well, better late than ever!

However, my current state of being aside, I actually liked this, the book was inspirational to me mainly because I know Elisa - she was me and I was she - that type of thing. And being unhappy with yourself as well as feeling like you're letting everyone else down by being the way you are is probably something most of us could identify with. Everyone's been there, unless you just don't care what anyone thinks and to that I say: "Hey, friend! Your life must have been a heck of a lot easier than mine!"

batman and robin Pictures, Images and Photos

"To the bat mobile!"

Heh, I couldn't resist.

Yes? Oh, you know you giggled!

Haha, but without me going all Tyra Banks on y'all about self-esteem and its importance, I trust that you get my point? Good, because someone in this conversation has to! *Sigh* We were talking about characters, right?

Good...

The characters were all phenomenal, like really, most of my enjoyment throughout this read came from them, they were brilliant! Like they were flawed and I liked it :D Elisa had self-concept issues, body issues - don't we all - but she was so SMART! I was like, "Girl, don't worry about a thing, you have brains!" but that didn't matter as much because in our day and age what is on the outside counts for a lot more.Screw the Universe. I did mention I would be snarky right? You've been warned twice...

The plot was excellent in that it had a pace that carried the story through heartbreak and happiness without rushing over important aspects or dragging through on anything. My respect is for Carson's storytelling ability and her learned grasp of what it means to tell a story effectively; forgive my gushing, but I kind of love this woman! However, and to be fair, I should mention two things which bothered me, one of which happens to be a spoiler so take care:

1. SPOILER: Humberto died!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME, CARSON!?! Why kill that precious little boy, it makes no sense to me and I'm still grieving. Hector better be worth Humberto's death!

Photobucket

Yes I said it! I want my sequel and I want it now, darn it!

2. This book happens to be categorized as "Christian Fantasy/Fiction" and whilst I will agree that there are elements of religion and that the consistent mentioning of a "God" does occur, "His will" aside it is not made apparent what God Elisa and everyone else worships. Their God is embroiled in sorcery and a different kind of spiritualism, it cannot be immediately categorized as Christian!

Deep breath...

It didn't seem right. If the religion, so central to the story that multiple civil wars are triggered due to discrepancies in its interpretation, never is fully specified please do not automatically make the assumption that it must be Christianity implied. Christianity does not happen without Jesus and the Bible sans belief in eternal life, repentance of sins and the Holy Trinity; it doesn't get anymore simple than that.

That said, it wasn't so horribly inaccurate to the point where I felt dreadfully offended. Rather, I understood the mix-up and kind of just went with it. The setting is enthralling and there's this whole Eastern/Arabic feel to the time and places Elisa and her friends visit that ultimately left me with a sense of nostalgia. I felt a little like Princess Jasmine on Alladin's magical carpet...

A whole new world!!!

Haha, so there it is! Please, please, please forgive the jumbled fashion in which I covered this review! As I said, today hasn't been ideal but I hope I at least managed to convey a general feel of The Girl of Fire and Thorns. Ultimately Elisa's story is one of transformation. Not only does she go about a very unintentional change outwardly, but also one within. At the beginning she stole much of my sympathy because having been in similar position, I know it's hard to see yourself as worth something especially when everyone's betting on you to fail. She just proves that you can't give up on you, ever, and sometimes change happens without consent, that doesn't mean it wasn't for the better!

Notice how the romance aspect kind of takes second to Elisa's growth? Yeah, I think that should say something. I became more invested in the character rather than the romance (s) - yes there are multiple - and honestly she has my affection forever because of just how relateable she was. This book is very, very special and I want my sequel.

Hear that, Carson? Order up!!

(Pretty please...??)

One helluva a read, spectacular in the very most parts and tugs rightly at the heartstrings, this book will warm your heart as it did with mine.

Goodreads Summary

Over 15 million copies sold in Japan! R to L (Japanese Style).
Final Volume!

Prince Kail, a young warrior and sorcerer, and Yuri, a modern-day teen, were thrown together when Queen Nakia drew Yuri across time and space into the ancient Hittite Empire. When it is the season of the North Star, Prince Kail has the power to send Yuri home. But the evil queen's plan to murder them both--and their growing feelings for one another--keep getting in the way!

During the ceremony to install her as Tawannana, Yuri tells Kail she's pregnant. Then, in a glimpse into the near future, Kikkuri recounts a day in his life as the chief trainer for the kingdom's horses, and Yuri gets herself into a bit of a fix while visiting Cappadocia. And in the concluding tale, love finds its own road in the events leading up to the marriage of Ramses, now the Pharoah of Egypt, and Kail and Yuri's granddaughter Naptella.

My Thoughts

With 28 volumes it is difficult to review every single one, and that is putting it very lightly! I took heed from a few readers and decided to review the last one as a giant summary of the series. It will be brief and just my notes on incidents and characters.

------------------ Beware of Possible Spoilers! ---------------------

This series was excellent, and I thoroughly enjoyed learning the history between the Egyptians and Hittites. I bet Ms. Shinohara did a butt-load of research to pull off something so amazing, and it definitely showed by how knowledgeable it was! Shinohara had a way of educating and entertaining with intelligent humor, and I liked that a lot about this series.

I loved Kail, and was in love with his adoration for Yuri! Man they were so sweet. Seeing them in this final volume is such a far-cry from the first where she was like, "I hate you. Get away!" Now it was like, "C'mon sugar, yeah!" Lol, they were cute. I cannot begin to describe what a strong heroine Yuri was! Girl had fire and it was hot! She comes from the 20th century but still manages to strategize the whole Hittite army to victory, not to mention rule like a boss! I respect, very much.

You know who I also respect? Ursula. I felt bad for that guy she was going to marry, I mean to say that her loss would have been so hard! And still he was so loyal, truly admirable.

The other character that was a favorite was Hadi. Her toughness was just killer and she was beauty and skill all in one, so totally a beast! I didn't care for her sisters however, and thought them quite foolish to fall for the same guy and both know about it. I do not share men. Ever. Plus Kikkuri was so not a catch! He took care of horses and didn't have any desirable qualities or looks whatsoever; he was just there, and giving him both girls was such a waste.

The ending was also a little weird for me and although I hoped there would be a little extra snippet with Yuri ruling, instead there was just a summary of sorts and closing with the same aggravating Kikkuri. [ But guy was a pimp! I gotta give it to him, two twins and a truck-load of kids...who were also twins. Lucky duck. With freckles of course, can't forget those. (hide spoiler)]

I also never saw the promised marriage between Yuri and Ramses grandchildren; that would have been so cool, finally a union! Still, it ended pretty decent and I was left with a slight case of mixed feelings for Urhi and the Queen. [ I wished they could have been together in some alternate universe/spin-off, I hated that those horrible people made him a eunuch! No child deserves that and Shinohara garnered my sympathy by throwing that last-minute bit of info into the mix. I felt bad for him. (hide spoiler)]

Most of the regrets I have are expressed above, although another, and equally important, area of concern is the slight smuttiness of this manga. I wasn't expecting it. Nudity, yes, but not the depictions of Kail having sex with Yuri and her throwing her head back in ecstasy as she nibbles on his (sorry to say) less than defined chest. It felt a little like porn at times,(not good), and I was so grateful that there was no drawn genitalia. That would have been more than a little much!

Also I did not really appreciate the way every man with a penis loved Yuri. Attraction does not work that way, but every man wanted her, like really badly and it was awkward. I pained for Rusafa and frowned deeply at this author when she did what she did to him! UNCALLED FOR!! That's another thing, Shinohara is so casual with her disposal of characters that it is painful. Obvious examples such as Usula. Tito and Zananza were hard to swallow being swept away, and in that aspect the author did not prepare the reader nearly enough. Not for their abrupt passing or the easiness in which it is soon forgotten.

Rusafa was a great guy and I think she should have killed Kikkuri instead of him. Just saying.

But no book except the truly celestial ones can leave zero signs of dissatisfaction; and I accept that this work was better than most despite my perceived failings in certain areas. Like I mentioned, having some things different would have been more my cup of tea, but it was as final in presentation as I had expected of the series closer, and with that I have no issue.

Goodreads Summary

You can run from the grave, but you can’t hide…
Half-vampire Cat Crawfield is now Special Agent Cat Crawfield, working for the government to rid the world of the rogue undead. She’s still using everything Bones, her sexy and dangerous ex, taught her, but when Cat is targeted for assassination, the only man who can help her is the vampire she left behind.
Being around Bones awakens all her emotions, from the adrenaline rush of slaying vamps side by side to the reckless passion that consumed them. But a price on her head – wanted: dead or half-alive – means her survival depends on teaming up with Bones. And no matter how hard Cat tries to keep things professional between them, she’ll find that desire lasts forever … and Bones won’t let her get away again. Original.

My Thoughts

This review comes late and that is simply due to the fact that my computer's mouse has indefinitely gone rogue. We cannot find it and I know that waiting any longer would simply prolong my views on this work. And what a piece of work it is! Ah, this book was so refreshing I cannot begin anywhere else but at the very beginning. And why not?Maria certainly thought that was a very good place to start.

Alright so my terrible 'Sound of Music' pun aside, I want to dive in by saying I was sceptic as to just how 'good' this book could be. I mean let me be frank: most 2nd books in a series tend to suck, period. It scares me, really it does, because I intend to have MANY 2nd books in the years to come; and yet everyone else who ventures towards writing a sequel comes up with a lacklustre piece of work. Maybe because working with characters you've used before is...tricky? I don't know! All I know is that I want to avoid that road as much as I'd like the bubonic plague.

Frost did. She made me love Bones again and again. To the point that I was almost wishing for a piece of silver to take Cat down with, but I loved her too much. I love it when an author does that, makes me feel like a giant hypocrite but it keeps me coming back. Maybe I like being told what's-what?

Naw, that isn't it! I just really love Bones, and really like Cat.

These two just keep getting better! They are such thick characters that I can imagine them without even trying, I can feel their pain and joys. They are People-Characters. I loved the plot and give it a smashing 5/5, it was excellent! Also, I thought I would never say this, but I love Cat's mom. Seriously her banter with Bones had my side splitting, it was perfect! I was like 'Bwahahaha ahaahahahaha haaaa!!' all the way through. Yes, I did look insane, thank you for asking!

But back to 'One foot in the Grave'. What else can I say but that it all kind of rightly flowed? Because that was what it did, I didn't feel lost at all and like I'd followed exactly where 'Halfway to the Grave' left off. It was incredible, just the thing I needed and I'm glad I listened to some crazy friends on here who insisted it would be 'worth it'.

Hey guys? It was. Excellent story and compelling characters demand a perfect 5! Way to go Frost, you up and broke the curse.

Goodreads Summary

Hopes for a perfect Paris holiday are dashed when half-vampire Cat Crawfield begins having visions of a vampire named Gregor who's more powerful than Cat's undead lover, Bones, and has ties to her past that even Cat herself doesn't know about. Original.

My Thoughts

Okay so here I go to FINALLY get around to writing up a review for this! I think because it's been so long this review will be brief, I'll rate Characters and plot and point out the strong as well as weak parts to this read. So without further adieu, here goes:

Plot: I really adore the way this author is so capable at making the reader forget. Really, when I read any of her books it makes me leave my world for a little to be with Cat and Bones and I am so grateful for that! This book in the 'Night Huntress' series follows Cat and Bones as they face a new terror: Gregor, Cat's first husband!

Characters: Cat and Bones are as entrancing as ever, they never will get dull, that is one thing I am certain of. The characters are always so fresh and something interesting is always happening! I cried for some of them. Tate was also fantastic. It is so weird because I feel for him, I really do, but the sole thought of Cat and Bones apart is not a pleasant one. My dreams for 'Cate' aside, I don't want to see Cat or Bones separated.

Which is precisely why I hated Gregor! Man he took possessiveness to a whole other level.[when he was hitting Cat after he found out that she slept with Bones? Just sickening, my stomach was in knots. I was glad when he died. (hide spoiler)]

Vlad did not disappoint and I'm so ecstatic that my Dark Prince gets his own series!!! I cannot wait. He is such a well-rounded character, and in this book Frost did good by him.

Setting: It was great. I especially loved the New Orleans setting, the Big Easy was perfectly depicted. Plus, all those ghosts made for such a hauntingly pleasing atmosphere.

H.M. (honorable mention): This title goes to Marie - the ghoul Queen and my hero! Man she's got a twisted sense of humor, and I like it. She will always be alright with me and she only helped the book, which is a lot more than I can say for other characters in other novels. I do not understand the point of planting a character only to have them contribute absolutely nothing. That is what frustrates me and I am glad it did not happen here.

P.A. (problem areas): I didn't like the pace of this book as much as the others. It was fast-paced as always but still it dragged a little on certain parts, and being one not always high on patience, I despised the wait leading to the resolution between Cat and Gregor! Still this series is the bomb and is it any wonder I plan on reading everything by this author?

There are erotic scenes and crass language, so mind that if you are younger. If not, grab a copy!

Goodreads Summary

It should be the best time of half-vampire Cat Crawfield’s life. With her undead lover Bones at her side, she’s successfully protected mortals from the rogue undead. But though Cat’s worn disguise after disguise to keep her true identity a secret from the brazen bloodsuckers, her cover’s finally been blown, placing her in terrible danger.

As if that wasn’t enough, a woman from Bones’s past is determined to bury him once and for all. Caught in the crosshairs of a vengeful vamp, yet determined to help Bones stop a lethal magic from being unleashed, Cat’s about to learn the true meaning of bad blood. And the tricks she’s learned as a special agent won’t help her. She will need to fully embrace her vampire instincts in order to save herself—and Bones—from a fate worse than the grave.

My Thoughts

Out of all the three Night Huntress books read, this one has got to be the saddest; it was dark and edgy but very good. This one picks up where the other left and Cat is having some problems: her disguise is through and the Undead world know who she is; it helps however that she has Bones by her side. He's back too and I don't want to give what happens away, but he is a whole of a lot stronger.

Which makes him so much hotter! I felt like he was a king through all of this, really. Bones will always be smoking to me, the only ones that remotely rivalled him were Spade...and Mencheres... And Vlad...and kind of Ian in a weird way, but that was IT. Lol who am I kidding?! They were all smoking! I love Frost for her fine men, she's a gem with a truck-load of talent.

She knows her characters and definitely how to spin a plot. She made me laugh and cry almost simultaneously and one thing in particular wrenched at my heart through this book. I won't give what away, but know that for those few chapters that I believed it was true, I was in turmoil. I asked myself if it could really be happening and was delighted when things were okay again, that gave me such a scare!

Bones is crackling with Vamp energy and all is good in the world of the Undead and Judith!

But I'll keep this brief; this book was amazing. I refrained from giving it a 5 because Although it is good I have read better from this author. Bones and Cat still rock, but there was the lightness that I love about them missing, they were in so much pain I don't see how I couldn't feel that. I guess being at war will do that to people, and yet this work is an example of great control. Frost knows what she's doing, as I have mentioned before, and entices the help of characters such as Vlad to make up for the necessary seriousness by being comically full of it. He's officially one of my favourites.

I finished it in a day and a half (a new record) and will pick up the remaining two today...or tomorrow? Someday this week! But the bottom line is this was fantastic, and I want more.

"The spell. Victor said you had to want me... to care about me... for it to work." When he didn't say anything, I tried to grip his shirt, but my fingers were too weak. "Did you? Did you want me?"
His words came out thickly. "Yes, Roza. I did want you. I still do. I wish... we could be together."
"Then why did you lie to me?"
We reached the clinic, and he managed to open the door while still holding me. As soon as he stepped inside, he began yelling for help.
"Why did you lie?" I murmured again.
Still holding me in his arms, he looked down at me. I could hear voices and footsteps getting closer.
"Because we can't be together."
"Because of the age thing, right?" I asked. "Because you're my mentor?"
His fingertip gently wiped away a tear that had escaped down my cheek. "That's part of it," he said. "But also... well, you and I will both be Lissa's gaurdians someday. I need to protect her at all cost. If a pack of Strogoi come, I need to throw my body between them and her."
I know that. Of course that's what you have to do." The black sparkles were dancing in front of my eyes again. I was fading out.
"No. If I let myself love you, I won't throw myself in front of her. I'll throw myself in front of you."
My Thoughts

Rating: 4.5 (And who could ask why with a quote like that being only the brink of the iceberg in terms of swoon-worthiness? The book promises so much and it delivers in full.)

Setting: Was better than most settings usually go, and I liked the whole Gothic-feel of the school, major bonus points! It was an Academy and while some parts could have been expanded on, it would not have been in character for Rose to suddenly take an interest in what the cafeteria looked like in detail let alone anything else. The environment was familiar to her, and having her suddenly keen in on everything would have been weird. I still got what things looked like fine so I'm not complaining.

Also the world of Moroi and Dhampirs was very intriguing, kind of sad that they can't reproduce together though. I want Dimitri and Rose babies and I'm praying for a miracle. The system is very unique to me, the whole idea of royalty and then guards trained to guard them with their lives has not been done. I applaud Ms. Mead for her ingenuity.

Plot: A solid four from me, it was a consistent and fluid ride. There were certain areas that were a little slow and I would have liked more excitement in the middle portion - but it worked out - and ultimately all the decisions Mead took regarding the plot twists ultimately panned out. I was engrossed so much so that while I was supposed to be studying, I was tucked in a crouch, Godiva on my lips and book in hand. It was magic.

Characters: These people were so awesome, I can't really begin to describe. It wasn't that they were perfect - far from that, actually - but that they were connected and you did not need to give yourself a migraine thinking about just how. The ties were clear, and I enjoyed the easy way of their interactions. Drama certainly existed, what book lacks that component, but it was so easy to understand.

Like for instance, I know for sure that I hate Mia for her desperate need to be accepted by the royals and the means she goes about achieving her goal, love Rose/Dimitri for what they give to each other, despise Natalie for what she did and find Lissa too lukewarm for my liking. Christian is still on the fringes for me, and Mason is a sweetheart. See? No needless complexities, I loved it! Did I forget to mention how badly I melted on-sight for Dimitri? I went to sleep murmuring his name and I completely believe that I am normal.

Because he was so studly and so not the typical angry/brooding Russian guy. He was still composed, but he was so amazingly dimensional and I know that there is more to him. That is why I will read all the books in this series, I already have them requested at the library. And then I will make plans to purchase volumes 1-6, because I adore Rose as well.

She was so selfless and devoted to her job that I had no choice but to admire her determination and strength. Finally a heroine who smacks the bitch down! I was exponentially pleased.

P.A.(problem areas): Would probably just be the slowness in the middle, but that isn't an issue, the end delivered. Also I would have appreciated more of Dimitri and yet I look forward to the fact that I have reserved the next five books! Suck it everyone else who was to wait, I get Dimitri first. Boo-yah!

H.M.(honorable mention): must go to my girl Rose, there is no other like her and she was largely why this book worked for me.

Overall I think I understand now why people coo over this series, they have due reason and while I never plan to become one of those screaming fangirls obsessed with the book and ruining it sideways (like most are. Seriously someone needs to hand me a rifle, I'll take them down myself. Daddy didn't raise no fool!) I am in love with this series. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed. 4.5 sexy Russians, ahem, genies!

A great, fun adventure of a read, I recommend this book and can't wait for more in the series!

Goodreads Summary

The night is not safe for mortals. Denise MacGregor knows all too well what lurks in the shadows - her best friend is half-vampire Cat Crawfield - and she has already lost more than the average human could bear. But her family's dark past is wrapped in secrets and shrouded in darkness - and a demon shapeshifter has marked Denise as prey. Now her survival depends on an immortal who craves a taste of her.

He is Spade, a powerful, mysterious vampire who has walked the earth for centuries and is now duty-bound to protect this endangered, alluring human - even if it means destroying his own kind. Denise may arouse his deepest hungers, but Spade knows he must fight his urge to have her as they face the demon nightmare together...

Because once the first drop of crimson falls, they will both be lost.

My Thoughts

It has been a few days since I finished reading this and thought to write the review, finally. I enjoyed it, the book was very crisp and the characters very likable, plus I finally got where Spade's crazy protectiveness comes from! I see why he was miffed at Cat for calling Denise to shape shift in book #5, because who wouldn't worry - what, with what happened to Giselda as a forever example of all that could go wrong? yikes!

Denise was lovely, really I haven't admired a heroine (except for Cat) like I did Denise! She was truly admirable and loved her family so much to the point that she was willing to sacrifice everything for their happiness; even in the face of Raum she was brave! So Denise officially has my devotion, and big ups to Frost for making me love my Spade even more again. It was a close one, but I almost disliked Spade! *gasp*

But I have learnt my lesson! Off I go to the grading.

Plot: I have come to expect gorgeous and excellent plots from this author. She has such a way with words, and her ideas string perfectly! Let it never be said that Frost is predictable, because even with the things that may hint as simple, they are never quite just that. I relished the adventure of them trying to free her from the bands, but the action was very real and I liked that.

Spade and Denise really where made for each other and I am thrilled to give this plot full marks on how they came together.

Characters: The characters have got to be my favorite aspect to this writer's work; they are always so round and concrete. I knew what I was reading because the author knew what she was about. She made the parts of Denise, Spade and even Ian consistent! I also enjoyed Nathaniel and thought him adorable for the most part, he was a great addition to the story!

Denise was this firecracker and though I have always loved her, I went gaga almost for how controlled she was, girl has tolerance. She's this frugal spender whereas Spade just loves to roll those dollar bills! Their combination was stellar.

Setting: Because I did not pay great attention to the settings does not mean that they sucked, simply that there were other things occupying my mind...

Like Spade...

And Bones...

And Ian...

Still, when I think of the descriptions I remember them being to the point and clear. I can fault nothing.

H.M(honorable mention): Has got to go to Ian! I think the thing I appreciate most about this character is his tenderness and true care for his friends, they are like his family and while his actions might sometimes say differently, he does love them. That had me all warm and fuzzy inside and I love him regardless of that unfortunate decision. [his penis piercing. We all make mistakes! (hide spoiler)]

P.A(problem areas): Would have to be the resolution of the bands. I cannot give too much away but I wished something different for Denise and her bands. But other than that? I'm all good!

And is there any wonder this book is a 5/5? I think not! Watch out for erotic scenes and language if you are younger, but if not grab a copy. I really do love this book!

Goodreads Summary

Rose Hathaway's life will never be the same.

The recent attack on St. Vladimir's Academy devastated the entire Moroi world. Many are dead. And, for the few victims carried off by Strigoi, their fates are even worse. A rare tattoo now adorns Rose's neck, a mark that says she's killed far too many Strigoi to count. But only one victim matters . . . Dimitri Belikov. Rose must now choose one of two very different paths: honoring her life's vow to protect Lissa—her best friend and the last surviving Dragomir princess—or, dropping out of the Academy to strike out on her own and hunt down the man she loves. She'll have to go to the ends of the earth to find Dimitri and keep the promise he begged her to make. But the question is, when the time comes, will he want to be saved?

Now, with everything at stake—and worlds away from St. Vladimir's and her unguarded, vulnerable, and newly rebellious best friend—can Rose find the strength to destroy Dimitri? Or, will she sacrifice herself for a chance at eternal love?

My Thoughts

Why I liked this book: Duh, It's by Richelle Mead! Seriously you guys should be asking how I could not like this next installment in the Vampire Academy series. It was an engrossing ride with loads of ups and trademark Hathaway humor and I adored how the truth of Zmey came out. Smokey's on toast! That was a delightful surprise and I loved having him in this book. I also enjoyed:

- Olena, she was everything that I expected Dimitri's mother to be and more. Let me point out that my thoughts at the beginning and in regards to the blood whores in general swayed more towards images of a cave/ primitive society comprised of scantily clad women converged to take care of their illegitimate babies, and occasionally participate in skeevy unprotected sex. Hey, let the imagination be! But yes, that is what came to mind and I don't blame myself for thinking that way.

Everyone in the VA world is always talking about how slutty and cheap they are! And yet Olena was just sweet and awesome. Loved her.

- Bahaha! I could not live without Yeva in this book! The Woman is boss, my friends! She's just so capable and mysterious...I can't wait for more of her. Also the hell she put Rose through? Absolutely priceless.

- The overall connection between the girls, Rose and Lissa. It was really touching to see that Rose still took the time to check up on her friend and the fact that they really missed each other was made very evident. These two are the best friends, ever.

- How can I not mention Abe? Guy is a pimp-master general. Period. If for nothing else people should pick this next book strictly to find out more about him, really, it will be well worth it.

What I didn't like: Honestly? The lenght. I don't think that this book needed to be 500+ pages, and I realize that some do, but a lot of time and ink could have been saved if the action got along sooner. Sydney's presence was necessary for the world-building aspect and the introduction of the Alchemist's as a Strigoi-clean-up service/M.I.B.-type organization, but not for much else; and actually I found her pretty annoying.

Chicks who whine about being size 2 grate on my nerves in ways that you cannot imagine. When you're on an 800 calorie diet and trying to lose a minimum of 30 pounds by the end of the year? You can talk. Watching her dance over food when she was more than tiny became very irritating. Instead of feeling compassion/pity for her obvious lack in self-esteem I wanted to start my flamethrower. True story.

- I also hated seeing Dimitri this way, as a Strigoi, man it killed me. I have so many feelings for him that reading him dark and twisted wrenched like a knife. I want Dimka back! The dynamics of his relationship with Rose were also altered and when they were together I didn't know what to feel. Here was this Strigoi, but he was so much like Dimitri sometimes that hating him was impossible. I get why it must have been so hard for Rose!

H.M. (honorable mention): Goes to Yeva and Abe, because characters like these make a book stellar.

P.A.(problem areas): Like I mentioned, the length leaves much to be desired, but all in all this book was far from bad.

Rating: 4.5 genies :)

Goodreads Summary

The ultimate battle between sisters is nearing, and its outcome could have catastrophic consequences. As sixteen year-old Lia Milthorpe searches for a way to end the prophecy, her twin sister Alice hones the skills she'll need to defeat Lia. Alice will stop at nothing to reclaim her sister's role in the prophecy, and that's not the only thing she wants: There's also Lia's boyfriend James.

Lia and Alice always knew the Prophecy would turn those closest to them against them. But they didn't know what betrayal could lead them to do. In the end, only one sister will be left standing.

My Thoughts

Alright so while the threat of my finding a new Motherboard has my old one spooked, let me hurry and churn out this review! I won't go into detail but know that this is the third time that I've sat here in the attempt to write this up. I don't know why but whenever I get close to finishing my computer just blinks off. Yes, it is VERY annoying and if it doesn't start putting its act together I will go down to Staples and replace it.

*whispers crossly to computer* "You know that new model I showed you? Yea, well it's gonna replace YOU! No it wasn't for my mother, it's for ME! Now if you know what's good for you, you'll behave."

*Ahem* My apologies that you had to see that folks, you caught me as I was reinforcing some discipline into my delinquent Motherboard. It won't happen again, I assure you. So moving on.

I didn't hate this book, in fact it was decent, but that's just the thing; I love the concept of this series and it escaped me as to why this book should be anything short of amazing. I hold the curse of the second book responsible because I cannot fault Mrs. Zink. The failings come through poor plot decisions and dry characters, they all felt so very stoic to me and as though nothing really was happening.

The first book I was terrified of the Souls and here I wasn't the least bit frightened. They seemed sad. Not the 'let me hold you' sad, but the 'I can see why you haven't been able to escape yet,' sad. Sad as in pathetic. They should have been menacing! There should have been blood. Why wasn't there blood?

I waited and hoped my hardest that this book would really be 'better' like so many others claimed, but it wasn't. Lia became a hypocritical and indecisive prude, the very worst kind. I mean seriously who's it gonna be, James or Dimitri? Or Philip who looks to have a major case of pedophilia but a crush regardless. She can't decide and it makes me as the reader incapable of sympathizing with her.

My love life as it stands is nonexistent, no men, no guy friends, Nada. I blame school. I've been studying non-stop that I can't really be bothered, and yet I know that if guys like Dimitri had the awesome Hots for me, there wouldn't be a question as to whether I accept him! James is soiled goods, sorry bud but the Alice thing is just too much. You couldn't handle 8 months apart? I would understand if maybe they were unsure as to whether she was alive or not, but everyone knows she is living! Why couldn't he wait?

She promised to come back and no matter the reason I cannot justify your decision to cozy up to resident evil, a.k.a, Alice. There is no coming back from that, my friend! People survive years apart and a few months here managed to rip true 'love' apart? Unbelievable. That is why I think Dimitri better for Lia, because he would wait and he would not give up. Ever.

There was so much more that could have happened with Dimitri also and I felt like we just knew him for his qualities and not as a character. His romance with Lia happened swiftly and I was okay with that. What I wasn't okay with was Lia after a steamy make-out session, thinking about JAMES. Like she's having her conscience pricked or something, but a lot less realistic. I didn't buy it. She wants Dimitri and I promise to howl if she returns to the man possibly in love with her sister! I am not a fan of that because I know, (God forbid), that were I in her shoes I would not only kill James, but tear my sister limb from limb.

Alice has crossed TOO many lines! Enough with her getting away with everything, and enough with Lia being so dull that I cannot fight for her as much as I want to. She is too proper at times and in other parts, overly vivacious; strike a balance! I missed the Lia of book one and am not a fan of this one because it is drab and moody and not exciting enough.

The setting was uninspiring to say the least and I pushed myself to finish. I kept asking where the gothic feel was, the mystery? It felt very structured in a bad way, and unsure.

However the 3-genie rating is for the love and hope I have in this series. I will read the last book because I want to see it all play out and I am sure it'll be every bit better than the first.

*Fingers crossed*

P.S: In regards to Alice, despite my hatred for her I could not help missing her presence. Alice's life just seemed much more interesting than Lia's and you my dears, have no idea as to how greatly that worries me! She was up to a lot of things and I hope the next book will have the sisters in closer proximity and not only at the end. Someone should keep an eye on that girl and I am speaking of someone more competent than Aunt Virginia.

Review: Vampire Academy: The Graphic Novel by Richelle Mead

Goodreads Summary

After two years on the run, best friends Rose and Lissa are caught and returned to St. Vladimir’s Academy, a private high school for vampires and half-bloods. It’s filled with intrigue, danger—and even romance.

Enter their dark, fascinating world through a new series of 144-page full-color graphic novels. The entire first Vampire Academy novel has been adapted for book one by Leigh Dragoon and overseen by Richelle Mead, while the beautiful art of acclaimed British illustrator Emma Vieceli brings the story to life.

My Thoughts

So this graphic is pretty much perfect. Pretty much, meaning that I'd change the pace to something much slower since the story is pretty quick. Then again it is a graphic and can't be as long as the novel itself. 200+ pages is decent for any graphic, length-wise, so there aren't many grievances there, I honestly enjoyed it! The characters seemed very true to themselves and were fabulously drawn.

That is except Lissa. I hate how pale she seemed! So what if she's a vampire?! She's supposed to be super-model glamorous and Lissa just wasn't and neither was Christian. They were alright and a far cry from the hotness described in the books, I was kind of disappointed. Also Rose's eyes were tiny! I loved how her figure was drawn - perfect to my imagination - but her eyes were miniscule peas. Shootness! I was appalled. How could the fabulous artists of this ultra-cool graphic capture sumptuous curves and fail at eyes?? Man, it still puzzles me.

Luckily... there was Dimitri!!! WOOT. WOOT. Ladies, if any of you are even mildly as creepy as me when it comes to their fictional crushes and visualizing them and if Dimitri Belikov happens to be near the top of that list? This book is so for you. Wow, he was beautiful...and perfect...and all I imagined him to be.

Haha, so while every book has its weaknesses, it also has its own major plus points. The important thing, is that the positives by far outweigh the negatives. Luckily, this is very much the case! Beware of that steamy half-naked scene, but otherwise this one isn't a V.A. addition to be missed. Get it!

Goodreads Summary

A Victorian boarding school story, a Gothic mansion mystery, a gossipy romp about a clique of girlfriends, and a dark other-worldly fantasy--jumble them all together and you have this complicated and unusual first novel.
Sixteen-year-old Gemma has had an unconventional upbringing in India, until the day she foresees her mother's death in a black, swirling vision that turns out to be true. Sent back to England, she is enrolled at Spence, a girls' academy with a mysterious burned-out East Wing. There Gemma is snubbed by powerful Felicity, beautiful Pippa, and even her own dumpy roommate Ann, until she blackmails herself and Ann into the treacherous clique. Gemma is distressed to find that she has been followed from India by Kartik, a beautiful young man who warns her to fight off the visions. Nevertheless, they continue, and one night she is led by a child-spirit to find a diary that reveals the secrets of a mystical Order. The clique soon finds a way to accompany Gemma to the other-world realms of her visions "for a bit of fun" and to taste the power they will never have as Victorian wives, but they discover that the delights of the realms are overwhelmed by a menace they cannot control. Gemma is left with the knowledge that her role as the link between worlds leaves her with a mission to seek out the "others" and rebuild the Order. A Great and Terrible Beauty is an impressive first book in what should prove to be a fascinating trilogy.

description

See??

But before I delve headlong into the negatives, let me begin by pointing out what I liked about A Great and Terrible Beauty:

- I enjoyed Gemma and her dry humor and at times, she took me by surprise with her wit.
- The setting was perfectly historical and the time period proved itself to be a chilling escape once I convinced myself to sit down long enough to read through it.
- Libba Bray's writing is captivating and I found little trouble navigating through her world.
-Kartik's mysterious character left me intrigued.
- The humorous bits in some places of the book and scenarios involving certain characters had me in stitches, see my H.M. (honorable mention) below for more detail.

And now for the bad:

-Ann and Pippa proved to be by far the most irritating female characters I have ever encountered. Ann was this ungrateful suck-up, clinging to every rich and influential person within a 5m radius, determined to use people every bit to her advantage as possible, and more specifically Gemma. It was a wonder that Gemma repeatedly went out on a limb for her! Oh, and I hated her annoying crush on Tom. She thinks so highly of herself that it makes my skin crawl, and I needed to put the book aside for a minute or two whenever her cringe-worthy habits began to rear their ugly head; it was that bad.

Whereas, Pippa was just hard to understand and I am not 100% sure Ms. Bray knew what to do with her either. At times she was cruel and in an instant, childish or gentle. Don't think that I cannot hear you people out there crying: "Tis the mark of a truly round character to change!" Because I can, and you are all wrong. These traits did not do anything for the book, and in my opinion just served to puzzle the reader. [ I actually found myself feeling relieved about her death because that meant one less headache for me! Now if only Ann would die... (hide spoiler)]

- The almost completely one-sided relationship between Kartik and Gemma was ridiculous! Man, what did it consist of again? Oh, yes. One kiss on her part and then multiple hot-flash dreams again strictly from Gemma? It was sad, not in an endearing way that promised their togetherness, but in a "I need a good romance where the main guy actually knows the girl exists and doesn't so obviously want her friend," sad. I shall need to cleanse myself later with a good and real romance.

If there had been more interaction between the two I wouldn't have minded as much, but there wasn't. So am I to believe that he knew about those dream encounters and chose simply not to act on them? It is never clarified and his feelings for her are still very much shrouded.

- The true and simple way in which Ms. Bray goes about contradicting herself is truly awful. It made no sense to me why a worker of Circe would tell Gemma the truth about defeating her master, let alone help her by giving her the key to destroying itself? I liked the aspect of her meeting her mother to cope through her death...but then Bray ruined it by throwing everything up in the air for some minor shock-value. Not worth it!

- I also disliked how long it took for the action to begin. Nothing happened until 200 pages into the book and that should never be the case, ever. I should have been swept away at max, page 50/80.

- One thing in particular that bothered me was how forced the relationship between the four girls appeared, not for a second did I believe they were true friends and that little scene with the deer only proved me more right. Friends trust each other and believe the best in the other, striving to bring those qualities to light so that more than just they may see the brilliance of which their friend is capable. These girls used each other; whether it be for companionship, recognition, access to the power or flighty wishes, it was all about what they could gain from the other.

The sad thing is that Gemma still considers them her friends. Anyone else notice something wrong?

With the positives and negatives laid bare, I can only say that there is still hope for this series yet and I look forward to the next installment. I want to see what else could possibly go wrong, and hopefully witness a real relationship between Gemma and Kartik. Hey, Disney did say to dream.

Last but not least, H.M. (honorable mention): Can go to no other but Sally Carnie. She redeemed so much of this book for me, I cannot begin to explain with sleep behind my eyelids because I would never do her justice. But that scene with her and Gemma in the forest? Priceless.

I couldn't make my mind up about you, you were almost there, almost perfect, but overall something was missing. Still a special piece of literature, though, 3 and a half genies.
